1. The particulars of its organisation, functions and duties:
With the upgradation of Mizoram Union Territory into a full fleged state in 1986, the Department of Tourism also was established as a separate Directorate the following year in 1987. The Department ever since its inception as a seperate Department has only a Directorate Office in Aizawl and as such, it has neither Divisional or Sub-Divisional Office except the Tourist facilities like, Tourist Lodges, Highway Restaurants etc. located at various places in Mizoram, which are directly looked after by the Directorate.
The functions and duties of the Tourism Department is to develope and promote Tourism in the state by creating various kinds of tourist infrastructures to provide basic amenities to the tourists visiting the state. As Mizoram has been lacking behind much in Tourism promotion the Department therefore gives its main thrust towards creation of tourist facilities and promotion through marketing in the country and abroad. It also endeavours to create public awareness to turn the very asset Tourism into revenue earning instrument for the general public and the government exchequer

Main functions of the Tourism Department are as follows :
1) To creat tourist infrastructures to provide basic amenities to the tourist in terms of accomodation, wayside amenities (catering) and recreation.
2) To develope and create facilities to promote Adventure Tourism in terms of water sports, air and land adventure Tourism.
3) To sponsor training of educated youths to enhence skills in man power development relating to Tourism subjects.
4) Organising workshop, seminar and function to create public awareness on Tourism promotion.
5) To explore potentials of Tourism in the state.
6) Publication of tourist information folders, booklets, tourist guide map to provide basic information on Mizoram.
7) Encourage and support in celebration of important festivals like Chapchar Kut, Thal Favang Kut, etc. as a part of Tourism Promotion.
8) Managing and running of completed tourist facilities.
9) Promotion of Tourism by marketing through tourist festivals, fair, etc. in various state and abroad.
10) Organising and conducting educational tour in the country and abroad.
11) Generating revenue to the state exchequer.
12) Assisting and guiding tourist whenever require for their visit to Mizoram.
2. Powers and Duties of its Officers and Employees :
1) Pu B.Sanghluna, Director (1) : Over all administrative and executive head of the Directorate of Tourism.
2) Pu Vabeiha Hlychho Joint Director (1) : Assists the Director in all officials works and administration. All CSS works, annual plan, finance commission, NEC schemes, co-ordination with other Departments, work agencies and allied Department of Central Govt.
3) Deputy Directors (3) : They are allotted specific duties as follows :
a) Pu Biakthanmawia Pautu : Assists Director in administration as Deputy Director Administration. Also assists Director in matters of annual Plan, NEC Plan. He looks after computers, training, seminar, rules and regulations under Tourism and State Public Information Officer of Tourism Department.
b) Pi Zosangliani : Drawing and Disbursing Officer and looks after all financial and account matters, tourist information, publicity, statistical reports, etc.
15. The particulars of facilities available to citizens for obtaining information, including the working hours of a library or reading room, if maintained for public use.
Since the department is a young department, it has no library, except books of Department concerned. These Books can be utilised by the officials only during office working hours i.e from 9.00 A.M to 5.00 P.M, on all office working days. The department has made available some information reading materials like, Booklets, leaflet,tourist information, etc. which are of distribution gratis.
